WHAT/WHO: For the
first time ever, today the District Department of Transportation (DDOT)
is participating in Parking) Day an annual worldwide event where
artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into
temporary public parks. Introduced in San Francisco in 2005, Parking)
Day coincides with the first day of Car Free Days, 2013, and DDOT is
using the event as an opportunity to highlight the District's
sustainability efforts.
The public and members of the press are
encouraged to visit and enjoy the multiple parklets throughout the
District, as organizations and businesses temporarily turn ordinary
parking spaces into mini-parks.
