Most
of the time, Metro repairs take place on weekends, so as to
inconvenience as few people as possible. However, beginning on Monday,
WMATA has scheduled off-peak weekday track work, which will affect all
five Metro lines.
Red Line
During late evening hours, trains will
single track between Dupont Circle and Friendship Heights for NTSB-recommended
track circuit replacement, and between Takoma and Forest Glen for fiber
optic cable installation. Customers should allow 20 minutes of
additional travel time. On the evenings of Monday, Jan. 23, and
Thursday, Jan 26, the work will begin at 8 p.m. On Tuesday, Jan. 24, and
Wednesday, Jan. 25, the work will begin at 10 p.m. to accommodate
customers traveling from Verizon Center events.
Orange Line
Monday through Thursday, beginning at 10
p.m. each night, trains will single track between Ballston and Foggy
Bottom for advance work associated with an upcoming NTSB-recommended
switch replacement project. Trains will also single track between
Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory for station rehabilitation and track
work. After 10 p.m., customers should allow 20-25 minutes of additional
travel time. Customers traveling between DC and stations in Arlington
may consider Metrobus route 38B (Farragut Square-Ballston) as an
alternate. Buses make stops at Rosslyn, Court House, Clarendon and
Ballston stations.
Blue Line
Monday through Thursday, beginning at 10
p.m. each night, trains will single track between Arlington Cemetery and
Foggy Bottom for advance work associated with an upcoming NTSB-recommended
switch replacement project. Trains will also single track between
Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory for station rehabilitation and track
work. After 10 p.m., customers should allow 20-25 minutes of additional
travel time. Customers traveling to or from Virginia should consider
Yellow Line service as an alternate.
Green Line
Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. each day, trains will single track between Fort Totten and Prince
George's Plaza for rail and fastener renewal. Customers should allow
about 10 minutes of additional travel time.
Yellow Line
Due to Green Line track work, Yellow Line
trains will "turn back" at Mount Vernon Square during midday
hours. As a result, Yellow Line service will operate only between
Huntington and Mount Vernon Square until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mount Vernon Square should
use Green Line trains to complete their trip. After 7 p.m., Yellow Line
trains will operate to Fort Totten, as usual.
The Trip Planner on Metro’s website
will not reflect the impact of this work on schedules. For more
