The blue Metro Connections bus linking Dupont Circle and
Rosslyn will become a Circulator Sept. 1.
The bus will continue to run its current route through
Georgetown every 10 minutes at $1 fares.
Cincinnati, Ohio-based First Transit Inc. currently
operates Georgetown Metro Connection, as well as the city’s Circulator
buses, under a contract worth roughly $12 million each year.
The Georgetown Business Improvement District currently
oversees the blue bus route, but the District Department of
Transportation and Metro will take the reins in the fall.
The Circulator system, known for its bright red buses
and $1 fares, runs a number of routes throughout the city, including
those from Georgetown to Union Station, Woodley Park to McPherson
Square, Smithsonian Metro station to National Gallery of Art, the Walter
E. Washington Convention Center to Southwest Waterfront and Union
Station to Navy Yard.
Metro Connections fares are currently 50 cents at the
Rosslyn and Dupont stations and $1 at stops in between. The system does
not hold electronic fare boxes now, but will add them in September when
it transitions to the Circulator brand.
Riders transferring to the Circulator will pay 50-cent
fares.
