Mid City Artists hosts annual tour in time for pre-holiday shopping |
|
Washington's popular fall walking tour of
artists' studios in the U Street, Dupont Circle, Logan Circle and Thomas
Circle neighborhoods takes place this year on October 24 and 25 with the
addition of three new artists and a host of business supporters.
Visitors to the Mid City Artists' (MCA) event meet community artists in
their workspaces to see a range of new work, including drawings,
sculptures, paintings, prints, photographs and mixed media. MCA hosts
the tour twice a year, in the spring and fall.
"This is a great time for collectors to check out new work by their favorite artists and begin thinking about holiday gifts," said Susan Cole, an MCA member. "And it is also a good opportunity to see work by new members and artists they missed during the open studio tour last spring." Most studios will be open on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Refer to the Mid City Artist (MCA) Open Studios brochure available at supporting businesses or log onto www.midcityartists.com. Sixteen MCA artists will be participating in the fall event, including three artists new to MCA: Groover Cleveland, George H Smith-Shomari and Isabella Spicer. MCA is a diverse and talented group of more than 40 professional artists who work together to promote their work and create an artists' community in central neighborhoods in the nation's capital. A number of members are well-known and represented by galleries, while others are emerging artists. "Many of our visitors take the weekend as an opportunity to explore our neighborhood on a beautiful fall afternoon," said Betsy Karasik, another MCA member. "They often mix shopping for art directly from local artists with shopping at the local businesses that support MCA." |
