Sun, 16 Oct 200518TH ANNUAL HELP THE HOMELESS WALKATHON |
|
The 18th Annual Help The Homeless Walkathon, sponsored by
the Fannie Mae Foundation, will take place November 19th on The Mall.
Register online at www.helpthehomelessdc.org
or pick up a registration form from any of the participating charities or
some local businesses. The early registration fee (from now until November
18) is $15 for youngsters age 25 or less, $25 for the rest of us. You can
also register on the Mall the day of the event, but the fee will be $30.
Proceeds from the event will be distributed among the list of charities included in the registration information. These are the organizations which work to provide our street people with the means to take control of their lives. Two Dupont Circle neighbors are on the list. Charlie's Place provides a hearty breakfast four days per week. Making no demands whatever on its clients, Charlie's Place attempts to establish trust, assess needs, and connect homeless people with available services. Charlie's Place is working to expand its breakfast service to five days per week. The Green Door, another local group, works to help people with mental illness to live independently. If you wish, you can direct your registration fee to the benefit of a particular organization. DCCA encourages you to consider our local homeless service providers, Charlie's Place and The Green Door, but all of the recipients are worthy. An added reason for designating one of our neighbors is that they receive an incentive bonus from the Fannie Mae Foundation based on the number of walkers they are able to recruit. To designate Charlie's Place, use the code CPSM; to designate The Green Door, the code is GDOOR. If walking isn't your sport, be a Sponsor. Donate online at www.helpthehomelessdc.org or contact Jon Bolduc at Charlie's Place (202-232-3066) or Maureen Jais-Mick at The Green Door (202-462-4092). This project needs our support. See you on The Mall on November 19th. |
