From: Karyn-Siobhan.Robinson@DupontCircleANC.net Evans and Ward 2 welcome street sweepers back to neighborhoods - cars may be ticketedSpring's approach means the winter hiatus for mechanized street cleaning will end March 18 and Councilmember Evans is reminding Ward 2 residents the Department of Public Works (DPW) will ticket those who don't move their cars on street cleaning days. Parking citations carry a $30 fine and will be issued to vehicles parked on the street during sweeping hours in areas with "No Parking/Street Cleaning" signs. In addition to most residential streets, this includes many commercial streets and traffic corridors. "Many streets go un-cleaned each week since some people ignore the no parking signs and won't move their cars on street cleaning days," Evans said. "Missed streets look dirty, cause sewage backups and add debris to our watershed, further polluting DC's waterways. "On the flipside, I also get calls from folks who did move their car only to come home and find their street's weren't cleaned - if that happens, please contact me so I can gauge how this is working." Mechanized street sweeping can be found in all Ward 2 neighborhoods with the exception of Georgetown, Burleith and Hillandale which are west of the 28th Street, NW boundary line for this program.
