On Monday, January 17, 2005 thousands of youth and adult volunteers from across the nation will serve their local communities during the
Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.
The Day of Service is a national campaign to make the remembrance of Dr. King's birthday, "A Day On, Not A Day Off!" Serve DC, AmeriCorps' NCCC, and DC Youth Advisory Council will conduct a major Rebuild and Clean Up program at Roosevelt High School in NW DC. Over 500 volunteers are expected to participate in this major effort to revitalize Roosevelt HS and six other public schools in the neighborhood. Roosevelt High School 4301 13th Street NW DC 20011 "A Day On" Schedule 8:30 am- 9:00 am Volunteer Registration (Roosevelt High School) 9:00 am - 9:30 am Kick Off celebration (Roosevelt High School) 9:30 am- 10:00 am Service activity orientation at each school 10:00 am- 2:00 pm Service 2:00 pm- 3:30 pm Lunch, MLK Birthday Celebration/Party Project Examples Include: Service Learning Component teaching younger students about the legacy of MLK.; Painting of a Youth Anti- violence mural on the wall at Roosevelt High School; Bleacher & Auditorium clean up and repair.; and much, much more!
